The reason why I chose Graphic Design as my first major is because it allows me to create art in a meaningful way. After taking GD 216 in my 3rd semester, it furthered my interest in graphic design as I was able to create different art pieces surrounding broader topics. I love building concepts & playing around the colors and font treatments. In my sophomore fall semester, it challenged me to explore and create something out of my comfort zone. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to think deeply within the meanings of words and its implications in design.

During my time in the communication designs AAS program, I explored and expanded my abilities within all the different aspects of design. After going through this program, I’ve learned that I had the capability of being able to further my designs in so many more, new and creative ways. One experience that really expanded these skills were in typography class where we were assigned to create different designs based on the various prompts provided. This pushed me out of my comfort zone as I got to experience working not just with a typefaces but its weights, leading and kerning to create a piece of art.

Among all my work, my manifesto stands out as my most successful piece because it authentically represents who I am as an artist. I have always been driven by the phrase “breaking the boundaries of art through different mediums.” Breaking the Canvas embodies this philosophy by blending my passion for makeup artistry and graphic design, pushing the limits of traditional art forms.
